Join our guest maker Karen Giroud and discover the art of Japenese Sashiko stitching and Boro mending.
Breathe new life into your old or damaged clothes and pick up new hand sewing skills with this traditional textile technique. You will learn about the fascinating history behind Sashiko while creating your own designs. Karen will provide plenty of examples, templates and inspiration. This is a great activity for avoiding textile waste and is a fun, easy-to-pick-up technique that is very mindful, relaxing and soothing. You will leave the workshop excited to apply your new skills.
You can use this class to either repair an item of woven clothing or create a lavender bag or pincushion.
Suitable for beginners and all levels of stitching experience.
Karen grew up in the North East but is now based in Edinburgh where she has designed and made costumes for film/TV and theatre and has taught art, design and textiles in schools and workshops for over 20 years. Light refreshments and all materials are provided - you are welcome to bring your own clothes to work on if you prefer.
